This series of Crimson-breasted shrike shots were taken at a lodge just outside the Namitomi gate in Etosha National Park. They have a distinctive call and hop around alot so you have to be quick to get the shot.

Long-tailed or Magpie shrike. Found in thornveld. This shot was taken in Kruger Park.
Magpie Shrike near Talamtai, close to Satara in the Kruger Park. Backgrounds in the thornveld can be quite tricky. These birds love perching in thorn trees.
White-crested helmeted shrike seen in Mashatu and Kruger Park near Pretoriuskop camp. They tend to move in small groups somewhat like babblers and they are also very talkative.

Male lesser grey-headed shrike on a good perch with a clean background in Kruger Park. The pinkish breast feather colouring is symptomatic of fresh plumage. The male has a thicker black mask than the female with stronger colouring.
